If We Could All be Like Our Kids

Thank you to everyone who has been so generous with donations for our trip. All of your donations will be used to purchase supplies that will go directly to the kids. I am so touched by your generosity and thank you for your special notes you have sent. One of my high school friends has talked with her children about my trip and educated them about orphans, and her children both decided to donate money they made from selling lemonade! Another friend who is joining me on the China trip spoke with her soon to be kindergartener as he was admiring the supplies laid out to pack. He first wanted the toys to play with, but once she talked with him about what an orphan might feel like, he left the room to return a few minutes later with money from his wallet to give to help. This is beautiful to me. I see it in my own kids too. We are so used to seeing our children squabble over toys, balls, etc that we dismiss the fact that they can sense when other people need help....yet I am always amazed in how quickly a child will give up something precious to them to help others, when they are given the chance to do so! My husband and I must say "The Golden Rule" to our boys about 50 times per day, and some days we wonder if they will ever get it. Then, out of the blue, they will demonstrate utter compassion for others ( a friend, a brother, or an orphan/foster child they have never met), and we just look at them in awe. If we could all follow the Golden Rule and "help when we can," think of how wonderful the world would be! As our children so willingly show us, every little bit helps, whether it is our allowance, our prayers, our talking with others to educate them....every one can make a difference. So, thank you for making a difference for the children we will soon meet! As one of my FAVORITE quotes says "To the world you may be just one person, but to one person, you just may be the world."
