Rough Week

Whew! It has been a rough week at the Boger house....William has had a really horrible cold with coughs and fever....and has been trying to study for his board recertification, work, and do all of his normal Daddy duties.  Ben had a soccer tournament last weekend, and started throwing up after his second game.  So, we welcomed the STOMACH VIRUS into our house!  He is a MOST UNWELCOME visitor, though we have not seen him in four years.  Ben passed his friend onto ME....and now Jack has it.  Please pray that Florie, Alex and William can stay clear of this nastiness!

In the meantime, we are hanging in there, getting soccer done with whomever is well, homework in, cross country in, and now trying to catch up on laundry (ha ha) and housework!  Will update more as we feel better.

In the meantime we have had a little fun....reading books, doing playdough, and just being silly!

Four Months Home!

As of September 11, Florie had been HOME for four months.  That sounds just plain crazy to me....she seems like she has been with us forever, and she is just part of our family now.  But, then I think of how far she has come....and what a strong, loving, amazing little girl she is...can you imagine leaving EVERYTHING you have ever known, whether it was "good" or "bad" for you? Leaving the building you had been in for your entire life, the nannies, the friends (aka family), the bed you slept in night after night, the clothes you wore, the toys you played with, the bottle you drank from, the food, the smells, EVERYTHING??  How long do you think it would take for you to "adjust," or to feel normal, or to even accept a new normal?  Florie is resilient, she is STRONG, she is tenacious....and she has been HOME for four whole beautiful months!

Florie's vocabulary continues to grow...and we still work on SIGNS.  She is now putting words together (like May i please have_____?).  She is eating well, still on the bottle twice a day....but we will work on that after Christmas.  As Alex said tonight when he was tickling her....doesn't she just have the sweetest laugh!

Labor Day in Atlanta...soccer, soccer, and FISH!

We spent our Labor Day in Atlanta for a soccer tournament for my oldest.  It was hot!  Our drive over was L.O.N.G. with all the traffic for Labor Day, but everyone hung in there pretty well.  Alex won one game, tied one game, and lost one game.  His team did not get to go on to the semi-finals, and it was a really hard last game to lose, but good lessons were learned and it was nice to see teams from other states as well.

After our last game, we decided to hit the Atlanta aquarium.....forgetting that it was LABOR DAY weekend.  William and I had a little anxiety with the crowds and watching the kids, but it was SO worth it to watch their faces!  We went to a dolphin show and I thought Ben and Florie would flip their lids when the dolphins jumped!

My Baby is now ELEVEN!

A few weeks ago we celebrated Alex's ELEVENTH birthday.  It was a week into his middle school career which began at the ripe old age of ten.  Fortunately, Alex has always been a kid who seems more "mature" than his age.  He started kindergarten at age four, and is one of the youngest in his class.  When he was a toddler and began talking, he pretty much started speaking in sentences right away.  And now every year seems to fly by faster than the previous one.  Alex is becoming such a gentleman.  He is kind, calm, stoic, tough, dependable, and an avid reader. He loves sports....LOVES them.  ESPN is by far his favorite channel, except maybe the soccer channel.  He constantly has a ball around him...or finds something to use as a ball. He loves math and science....give him a project or experiment to do and he is all over it! Writing, well, he is more like his Mom on that one!

For birthdays our kids get to pick dinner for the night, and what cake they want. Alex has been allergic to eggs since he was 15 months old.  He still reacts even when the egg is baked into something, so he has always had homemade cakes.  This year he wanted a strawberry cake with 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 cream cheese icing, all from scratch.  He also decided to eat at Ruby Tuesdays (we have never eaten there but he went with my Mom and liked their mashed potatoes). SO, after a busy school day, and soccer practice, we loaded up the family and went to Ruby Tuesdays for dinner.  We made videos about what we love about Alex.  My favorite was Ben's video, who only said he is NICE, but you could tell by the look on Ben's face how much more he wanted to say off camera....you could see how much he LOVES his brother, adores him, and thinks he is wonderful.  Because he is.  Alex thinks about others, and is always ready to help a friend. He shares what he has with others, and reaches out to those in need.  He is patient with us, and is a leader in our house.  He is strong in so many ways, and i am so proud of him and the man he is becoming!
