Heading to Hohhot orphanage day 2

We are awake, the sun is up, there is a beautiful clear blue sky outside. We are heading to breakfast soon (more greens for me!) and then to the orphanage. I feel rested, more confident, and pray that when those kids see that bright yellow bus pull up, they will be there waiting on us, like a ray of sunshine to come into their orphanage. It is difficult to explain the children. While they hve disabilities, most of us were prepared for that. The harder part is the aggression and just overwhelming effects of being instituitionalized. Even with being a pediatrician, this was very difficult for me. My fear took me away from why we are here, why I came...to love these children. One thing I wept about last night was that while this may be hard on us, THIS IS THEIR LIFE. No school, most were in the same rooms all day, and some of the rooms had nothing in them. The kids were just standing there. BUT, when we pulled up, they anticipated us. We brought joy and love to them whether we saw it or not. We hope to help show the nannies how to play with the kids, and to show them how to love these children. Of note, we really appreciate the director and his love for the kids. They all remember the visit from last year and still have the decorations up from the birthday party...the painted room is where a lot of the children stand--thankfully they have the Jungle animals to enjoy! So, we go in with a ne sense of strength, vision, love, and God's mercy. Every child is important and needs love.
